Homeowner Tries to Save Home From Fire
Crews were called to a fire on Esplanade Drive in Brighton just before 11:30 Thursday night.
Firefighters say two women were out of the house when they got there, but a man was still inside. The Brighton fire chief says the man got the other people out of the house when the fire alarms went off, but stayed inside to put the fire out.
He says the man used a fire extinguisher to get the bulk of the fire out and then wanted to set up fans to blow the heavy smoke out of his house. Fire officials say at that point its best for them to take over.
“He did a great job by knocking down the fire, but then we don’t need you to stay in there to fight the fire; we need you to get out of your home because your safety is a lot more important than anything you may have in your home,” said Brighton Fire Chief Stephen MacAdam.
All three residents were treated for smoke inhalation.
